Engaging Phonological Awareness Activities
Below are some fun, engaging activities for families with students in grades K-2.
Say or listen to nursery rhymes. Point out words that rhyme.
Play "I Spy" using the prompt "I spy something that starts with the sound..."
Play hopscotch. Have children say a sentence and hop one time for each word.
Make up silly sentences that include words with the same beginning sound.
At dinner, have children name the food items on their plate and use silverware to tap the number of syllables.
Here are two lovelies at Midland Trail High. Ms Persinger and Ms Burton are so fabulous. They are a dynamic duo. They help middle school kids during those trying teen times and then move on to those high school years where they help our young adults become actual adults. We love the Trail counselors. Come to the school and see what they do.
Your calls are important to us! We are currently having an issue with our main phone number at the board office. We are working with the provider to resolve the issue. Thank you for your patience.
Counselor Ms Jean English is so amazing we can’t find the great words to share how fantastic she is. She has a partner in crime at Oak Hill Middle Ms. Kim Richmond. This dynamic duo can help your child in grade 6 with the transitions and then deliver PEPs for grade 8. Call the school for more information
Our two counselors at Valley PK8 with the amazing Greyhound. Just like the speed of this greyhound Cara and Tammy will race around to find solutions to the challenges we face. They have a smile on their face and love in their heart for our Valley PK8 kids. Happy Counselor week Valley!

This is the fabulous Michelle Wolfe, counselor extraordinaire from OHHS. Today we share only a peek into the life of a counselor in anticipation of counselor week February 5-9. Michelle is an amazing counselor who knows where the college money is, how to do a schedule, and how to get us ready to be a big girl and a big boy. When I grow up, I want to be like Michelle!!! Join us in celebrating National Counselor week and learn more about their teams at each school and how they can best support Fayette County Students.

Science of Reading: Pillar One. Phonological Awareness. A fun parent activity is to simply have "rhyme time" with your children. Think of a short, simple word, like "cat," and encourage your child to come up with as many rhymes to the word as they can. Fun for "car time".
