To Fayette County residents. New legislation that passed earlier this year, allows you to be refunded your personal property(vehicles) taxes if you jump through all the hoops.
If you filled out an assessment form in 2022 for 2023 taxes, you can claim the 2nd half of your 2023 personal property tax. You have to pay the 2nd half after January 1, 2024 and before April 1, 2024 to qualify. If you did not file an assessment form, you will not qualify for any portion of 2023 tax.
To qualify for the 2024 tax credit, you must file a personal property assessment form. You can do this online, in person, or by phone. If you don’t file, you will not qualify. Call the office for more information. 304-574-4240 or 304-574-4246.
If you own a business you can qualify as well.
If you are a disabled veteran(90% or more) you can qualify for credit on real estate taxes paid.
This credit comes from the State, not the County. You must file a WV State income tax return to qualify. So for 2024 tax year, you would file a tax return in 2025. The money would then be paid back to you from the State.
I hope I have not confused anyone. I’ll be glad to talk to you about it.
