16 Week Career Cluster PowerPoint - A source for you and your child/children to explore the different clusters of careers. HAVE FUN!!!
Don't let this page overwhelm you, we wanted to make sure we included something from every source we could think of; from trade schools to universities, to military and vocational schools. Have fun checking all the links out with your child and explore. You never know, you might find something that intrigues you.
What is a career? A career is a path that one chooses to spend a good portion of their life doing, whether it be teaching, welding, coal mining, nursing, masonry, etc... It is the path you choose to fit your likes and talents. One of my favorite websites is a "test" that kind of points you to what your personality type is and the careers that fall into line with that personality type.
Parents, you too, can explore and do these right along with your child/children. It's not just for our students. John Holland/RIASEC Test. Once you have completed all the questions, you will get a result and a link to ONet online that will bring up all careers that match the 3 letter code. Once you get to ONet you also will find all the different careers, if they are green, have a bright outlook, etc. O*Net is a favorite destination for me when I talk to anyone about the future and what path looks great for them.
Ask yourself ---- What do I need to do while in school? Make good grades, be respectful, responsible, resilient, and resourceful. Purpose within yourself to DO the RIGHT THING in all situations, that way you won't have to worry when things get tough. What makes me happy? Coding, robotics, cooking, teaching others, working with kids, working with metal, woodworking, automotive (both mechanic and bodywork), forestry management, etc. The possibilities are literally endless and you can become the person that you choose.
My attitude determines my altitude!
Be Respectful - Be Resourceful - Be Responsible - Be Resilient
Do The Right Thing!!!!
Write an essay about how the above three lines play into you being able to find and follow a successful path in life for you and your future family? - Submit it to Mrs. English or Mrs. Richmond.

The West Virginia Legislature just made paying for a high-quality certificate or associate degree a whole lot easier through the creation of the WV Invests Grant program! Sometimes referred to as the "free community college" bill, this is a "last dollar in" program - which means students use all of their other federal and/or state grant awards first, and WV Invests will cover the remaining costs for tuition and fees at West Virginia community and technical colleges. With 3/4 of jobs in the current economy requiring postsecondary education or training, this grant program is designed to help more West Virginians earn the credentials they need to get jobs that will allow them to live and work right here at home.
