Bullying Reporting Form

The form link at the bottom of the page is your way to privately report what you have seen and what you have experienced.  OAK HILL MIDDLE SCHOOL takes bullying seriously and it is not tolerated. Although the counselors do not participate in the discipline, we can help with resources to not only combat bullying but dealing with it as well.  YOU MATTER, we will do everything we can to help those who are dealing with it.

One Strategy to use personally to combat bullying is the SEAL STRATEGY in which you:

  • Stop and Strategize where and when you’re going to speak to the person.

  • Explain what you don’t like and what you want.

  • Affirm your right to be treated with dignity and your responsibility to do the same and

  • Acknowledge anything that you did that contributed to the problem.

  • Lock: lock in the friendship, lock it out or take a vacation.

This is part of DOING THE RIGHT THING when we see something, we really must say something.  Remember what bullying is, and what it isn't.

What it is and what it isn't
According to StopBullyingNow.Gov:

  • Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time.

  • In order for the behavior to be considered bullying it is important to note that the behavior must be aggressive and include:

    •  An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.

    • Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once.

    • Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

  • We can look at Bullying as being more of persistent persecution.

Is it a CONFLICT? PLAY(JOSHING, JOKING), a person being a JERK, RUDE, generally MEAN?, or is it BULLYING.  We must define and understand the nature of what is happening or what has happened.
