There has been no phone service to the Fayette County Board of Education today due to problems with Frontier. Frontier has been notified and is in the process of correcting this issue. Thank you for your patience as we awaiting restored service.
New River Primary’s Student Support Team, with the help of the PTA hosted their first Valentine’s Dance/fundraiser to help support their PBIS student store and clothing closet. There was around 600 students and family that attended the dance. Between ticket sales and the concession stand, over $2,000 was raised to help support our students! Teachers and staff volunteered to provide face painting and crafts for students and family to participate in together!

New River Primary Practices Healthy Habits
The WV CARDIAC Project offers free health screenings and assessment for students enrolled in Kindergarten, 2nd, and 5th grades. A child’s height and weight will be measured and Body Mass Index (BMI) and BMI percentile will be calculated. A child’s neck will also be checked for Acanthosis Nigricans (AN), which is a skin condition that appears as a thickened, velvety mark on the neck that can be related to pre-diabetes. All screenings will be completed while adhering to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), West Virginia University, and local health department guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19. Lee Anna Vermillion, Easton Treadway, Hunter Zink, and Mackenzie Wright from Mrs. Meadows’ 2nd grade class participated in the cardiac screening.

New River Primary’s Student Support Team organized a Gingerbread Night on December 15, 2022 that consisted of different snacks and different activities for students to do with their families, such as build a gingerbread house, face painting, color a gingerbread ornament, build a marshmallow snowman, and make a gingerbread headband. There was also a special guest… Santa Clause! The night was a huge success, with over 250 participants! Those that attended were very pleased with the event, and made sure to thank the staff for planning the event. Even days following the event, parents and students were still talking about how much they enjoyed it.
“Can we do that again? I loved it!” Korie Shuff echoed the sentiments of the NRP students and parents who attended WVU’s Night of Code. Utilizing Microsoft’s Make.Code in Minecraft Education Edition, students programmed their agent to destroy fire hazards and navigate mazes as they completed the challenges focused on fire prevention. Many families left that evening with information on how turn their child’s gaming experiences into educational ones.

New River Primary Pre-K students participated in the annual City of Oak Hill Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Students from both, Ms. Kara Evans and Ms. Faith Cooper’s classrooms attended, along with their parents and families.
The Pre-K elf at Divide Elementary gave the students lights and batteries. The students were challenged to figure out how to light up the strand of Christmas lights.
