Midland Trail Fueling young minds with cluckin' good chicken!
This Drumstick lunch features tender, juicy drumsticks cooked to perfection. Bursting with flavor, the outside is crispy and golden, while the inside is oh-so-tender and juicy. Whether you gobble them up solo or pair them with your favorite sides, this meal is a definite winner!

Quote from AES Principal Marchelle Bowling: When one of AES second graders makes a delicious sandwich out of lunch and eats EVERY bite.

Last week, New River Primary practiced school bus safety with a bus reteach of expectations and this week, Buster the School Bus visited New River Primary to prepare for National School Bus Safety Week (October 16-20, 2023). Buster the Bus is an outstanding school bus robot that teaches the important lessons of school bus safety. Buster is a fully animated remote-controlled robot. He moves, speaks, listens, plays MP3s, and activates his lights all by remote control. With his stop-arm, he has all the warning devices of a real bus. He can wink, blink, and move his eyes, and with his smiling mouth, he presents a positive and friendly image to everyone he meets! The students really enjoyed his visit and got to sing Wheels on the Bus with him, and get their picture made! Pictured is Ms. Vargo’s Kindergarten class.

New River Primary’s Student Support Team applied for and received a grant for youth in grandparent or other kinship/relative care in the amount of $2,000. With the assistance from the grant, New River Primary was able to serve seven families and sixteen students. This allowed each student to receive a snow suit, a winter jacket, three school outfits, pajamas and new shoes! Families were so appreciative of the items and this was an excellent opportunity for the school to continue to build strong relationships with these families.

Happy Farm to School Month! We are thrilled to have this engaging and interactive display, generously loaned to us by WV Harvest. It vividly illustrates the numerous benefits of consuming locally grown food in West Virginia. Some of of Oak Hill Middle School's students, (Kashlyn McKinny and Tessa Adkins), actively participated in this fun activity. The enthusiasm among the students is truly contagious! Don't miss the opportunity to capture this exciting experience and be sure to snap a photo!

New River Primary Celebrated the critical first 30 days of school by fulfilling a promise made during the open house, when it was stressed that good attendance is crucial to student achievement. Those students who established routines of attending school and not being tardy were recognized.  On Friday, Oct. 6, 69 students and 16 educators were recognized as being a Big Dill!  They received a Big Dill certificate.

New River Intermediate, along with many other schools throughout the county celebrated an absolutely fantastic and thrilling event today the first: West Virginia Wednesday of Farm to School month 2023!  The pictured tray from New River Intermediate shows some delicious local chicken from Rainbow Farms and Pyne Mountain Farms. And that's not all! They also dished out some delectable green beans from Owl Mountain Farms and High Rocks Ruby Grow farm, along with scratch-made rolls from talented local cooks. To add some freshness to the meal, a delightful salad was also served. But wait, there's more! This meal is just the beginning of the incredible Farm to School Month celebrations. This month is important because it provides a chance for valuable education about local food, showcases the quality and pride that goes into each meal, and even has a positive impact on our environment and local community. So, get excited and join in on the fun as we embark on this amazing culinary adventure together!

Mrs. Elder’s 1st grade class won the first “No Tardy Tater” incentive for the 2023-2024 school year. At the beginning of the year, each classroom received a Mr. Potato Head. Every day that the present students are in class ON TIME, they get to add a piece to their Mr. Potato Head. The class that gets all of the pieces added first wins a certificate to hang outside their classroom and a special treat. This is a friendly completion to encourage students to be present and on time!

Parents: due to the traffic problems which were on I-77 today, school buses may deliver students to your home later than usual. Please allow extra time for your child to arrive at home after school today. Thank you.
