We'll be back with our regular senior spotlight next week, but this week, we have a very special #WonderfulWednesday!
The faculty and administration of Oak Hill High School proudly present the 2025 Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Analea Shepard.
A native of Clifton Forge, Virginia, Mrs. Shepard graduated from Alleghany High School in 2013 before earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Math Education (5-Adult) and Mathematics with a minor in Statistics from Concord University in December 2016. She also obtained a Multi-Categorical Special Education Endorsement.
In August 2016, she joined OHHS as a teacher-in-residence, an alternative to traditional student teaching, due to a shortage of math teachers. Essentially, she was so exceptional that Concord entrusted her to lead a classroom without a full-time supervising teacher before her official certification! She has been an integral part of OHHS ever since. In May 2020, she earned a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Marshall University, completing over 600 internship hours across elementary, middle, and high school levels, as well as at the Youth Reporting Center, while continuing her teaching duties.
Now in her ninth year of teaching, Mrs. Shepard has become an invaluable thread in the fabric that is OHHS. She teaches Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II, and Algebra II, serves as Math Department Chair, and is a member of the OHHS Leadership Team. She also works as a math tutor, Master Teacher and Aspiring Leader, Mountaineer Master Mathematics Teacher (M3T) 4-Year Fellow, and Local Improvement Team (LIT) Leader. Beyond academics, she is the Student Council Co-Sponsor, Event Coordinator (Assistant to the Athletic Director), and Assistant Girls Basketball Coach.
Outside of school, Mrs. Shepard cherishes time with her husband, Sam, whom she married in July 2018, and their beloved pets: dogs Loki, Axel, and Kira and cats Mia and Luna. She enjoys hiking, listening to audiobooks, reading on her Kindle, working out, and visiting her sister in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Passionate about teaching, Mrs. Shepard has no plans to leave the classroom. She credits the M3T fellowship for helping her grow as an educator and advocate for both herself and others and is committed to mentoring fellow teachers. On being named 2025 OHHS Teacher of the Year, she shares: “I am extremely grateful the staff at OHHS chose me as their Teacher of the Year. It means more to me than they will ever know, and I cannot wait to represent our school at the next level. I hope I can make us all proud.”
Congratulations, Mrs. Shepard! Your dedication, leadership, and passion inspire us all, and we are excited to support you on this well-deserved journey!
