Mrs. Farr’s H.O.T.S classes
Competing Paper Planes... students are evaluating competing designs in order to identify the design that will best solve the problem (a plane that can go long distances and/or stay in the air for a long time). They collected data on 3 competing paper airplane designs of their choice, by test flying each design 3 times, then found the average distance and average time aloft for each design, then analyzed the data in order to choose the best design to solve each problem. Each chose the best of the 3 they folded and are now competing with that design while collecting the data from each flight. We will then arrange the flights in order of longest average distance and longest average time aloft to find the winner in each class and over all. The also evaluated each flight for acrobatics.
This is an engineering and design lesson with added math components
