We are thrilled to announce Ms. Vanessa Thompson as our OHHS Teacher of the Year! A native of Cabin Creek, Ms. Thompson earned an Associate in Arts from Beckley College, a Bachelor of Arts from Concord College, and a Master of Arts from West Virginia University; she holds degrees in Social Studies and Communication. She sought further education at University of Southern Mississippi, where she taught part-time while doing graduate work and research. A proud educator for 35 years, she spent the first 25 years of her career at Mountain State University as an Assistant Professor of Communication and Director of Interdisciplinary Studies and the most recent 10 years at OHHS, where she currently teaches World History and Speech Communication. A die-hard Saints fan, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and tending to her beloved golden retriever, Sutter Joe. Speaking on her Teacher of the Year distinction, she says, “I love my OHHS family, and one is only as strong as their family and friends. We ALL deserve this!” Congratulations on a well-deserved honor, Ms. Thompson. We feel so privileged to have you as a member of our faculty!
